Uniting designers in a global campaign to declare climate emergency

I shaped the UX and redesigned the website for Design Declares, a global call to arms for designers to fight against climate change. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the environmental impacts within creative industries and provides resources and guidance on how to steer our practice in sustainable ways. I worked alongside the creative director to expand the original single page site to multiple pages, as well as updating the design and brand to a new bold aesthetic. Alongside the UX and UI I also designed, animated and edited an intro video to explain the campaign in a quick and punchy way.

UX

Originally the site was a single landing page which had become bloated and unapproachable. I expanded the site across multiple pages, considering key interactions such as how to access the 8 Act pages and toolkit, both now and in the future as the site brings more content from Notion onto the site itself. A key UX challenge was the incorporation of the global chapters and how we wanted to centrally manage the core site, while allowing partners to contribute effectively.t

UI Design

Originally the site was using the bold display font from the logo for headings and content throughout the page. This created legibility issues and with new chapters joining with various language requirements, we needed a more flexible typographic approach that not only increased legibility but also supported multiple languages easily. Alongside these typographic updates the hierarchy, use of colour and grid were also improved to give the site a strong modernist aesthetic.
